Week 3 Promises

We are three weeks into our family promises experiment, and so far everyone has been able to hit their goals for completing their tasks.

Here's a breakdown of our thoughts on this week's chosen tasks.

Tracy - Drive Someplace New

Why was this promise important to you?
Exploring Portland.  I like to go to new places, and I don't feel like we do it enough.

How did it feel to fulfill your promise?

I enjoyed Mt. Tabor.  It is a HUGE park and I had no idea how big it was, and I got to do it with Shea which made it all the more special.  We watched ALL of the dogs.  We ate lunch there, so it was kind of a mommy and Shea picnic.  It's nice to get out of the house with all the COVID stuff happening.

Shea - Read a Book

Why was this promise important to you?
It got me off my phone.  I love to read.

How did it feel to fulfill your promise?
It felt really good.  I felt accomplished.  I read Fierce Fairy Tales.  It's a really good collection of poems and short stories.  They are different from what you would normally read in a regular fairy tale.  Some of them were obvious retellings and some of them are more vague about how they relate to the fairy tales.

Kyle - Do A New Experiment

Why was this promise important to you?
Shea and I have had a tradition of doing science experiments in the kitchen throughout her childhood, and I always appreciated that time with her.  I wrote this one out because I wanted to spend time with my daughter making a mess and looking at cool new things.  Experiments was always a way we could do that.

How did it feel to fulfill your promise?
We had this crystal growing experiment in the house, so we latched on to that as we had it on hand.  It was a little "young" for Shea and I, but it was still fun to pull out the supplies to put the experiment together and to watch the crystals grow in the tank.  You can see pictures of them below.

We've drawn our promises for the coming week, which will be hard as I have my birthday this week, we have a family dinner, and we are going to head out of town to spend some time together as a family, but we will work to get it done.

Here are this week's promises:
